Jokingly referred to as “The Almond Doctor,” Dr. Lankin is a physician. He is board-certified in Occupational & Environmental Medicine and Family Medicine. He was on staff at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital and the William F. Backus Hospital in Southeastern Connecticut.

Dr. Lankin founded the company inspired by recent research showing the many health benefits of almonds. Knowing how patients have difficulty adhering to “boring” diets, he looked for a way to provide some taste variety without sacrificing the integrity of the whole almond.

A Note from Dr. Lankin Hi, thanks for stopping by. This page was created because so many people in the food business ask if I’m a “real doctor” or just someone using the name…like a “rug doctor.” The credit starts with my mother, Paula. Back in the mid 1960′s, long before “health food” was popular, my mother was interested in good nutrition. For lunch, other kids had peanut butter and jelly sandwiches on white bread and a sugary cake for desert. My brother and I used to get sandwiches on brown wheat bread and some fruit. Following Mom’s example, I began to learn about the health benefits of almonds from the medical and scientific literature in early 2001. I couldn’t believe how good almonds are. Yet when I spoke about it people thought I was, well, “nuts”… the same way we thought cardiologists were “nuts” back in the 1980′s telling us that taking an aspirin could prevent a heart attack. Today more and more people are learning about the health benefits of almonds. I think it’s important to include nuts, and especially almonds, in our diets on a regular basis. Born in Vineland, New Jersey, Dr. Lankin was raised in Philadelphia. He was graduated from The Central High School of Philadelphia, Connecticut College and went to medical school in Maryland.

He has taught for the Quinnipiac University Physician Assistant Program the Yale School of Nursing and the Georgetown School of Nursing and Health Sciences.

Dr. Lankin went to night school for business to join other physicians who were taking a greater role in healthcare management.

At the University of New Haven what started out as a project, turned into our company. Classmates and professors were instrumental in its creation. They continue to make significant contributions.

This is now a family business. There are LOTS of people working together to bring you a delicious snack with all the nutrition goodness of almonds.
