Love, Chocolate and Red Wine May Keep the Heart Healthy

1

Dr. Julie Damp, a Vanderbilt Cardiologist, revealed following a recent study that those involved in a loving relationship may be doing their heart a favor. She believes that many in such a relationship are less likely to smoke and more likely to take better care of themselves in their diet and exercise. She also says there can be less anxiety and stress for those involved in a long term relationship.

Dr. Damp also mentioned the positive effects of dark chocolate and some red wine. The theories on red wine and dark chocolate benefits are based on the presence of flavonoids in these substances. The flavonoids have positive effects on blood pressure and contribute to lower blood sugar levels.

Despite the positive benefits associated with red wine and chocolate it is important to exercise caution when indulging. The fat content in chocolate and the alcohol content of red wine make it necessary to be moderate in their consumption.

There are other substances found in foods that can help with blood pressure regulation as well. An all natural snack like almonds contains both potassium and magnesium, two minerals that can have positive effects on cardiovascular health.

Adopting a hearth healthier diet doesn’t have to be bland or boring. Eating delicious all natural almond snacks and partaking in the occasional glass of red wine or dark chocolate treat can be an enjoyable way to begin your journey to improved cardiovascular health.

I taste chilled red wine which is better to me than wine at room temperature.
